The Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP), established in 1982, is a donor funded integrated rural development programme working in the Northern Pakistan (Northern Areas and Chitral) over the last two decades. The overall goal of the organization is to improve the socio-economic conditions of the people of Northern Areas and Chitral through a variety of interventions and supports including:
Participatory Infrastructure Development (Roads, Irrigation Projects and Microhydels etc.)
Natural Resource Management
Rural Financial Intermediation
A number of international donors have been supporting the programme for the last twenty years. These donors include the governments of Canada, UK, USA, Japan, Switzerland, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan and European Commission.
